Working Proof’s Brilynn Ferguson named to top 30 under 30

When Working Proof manager, Brilynn Ferguson, isn’t busy running the studio, it appears she’s off winning prestigious awards.  We’re proud to announce that  Brilynn Ferguson has been named to The Ontario Hostelry Institute’s Top 30 under 30 list for her exceptional  work in food photography and video. This prestigious award from the institute honours and celebrates the achievements of emerging stars in the professional industry of food and hospitality.

In a personal letter written to the Chair and President of the OHI, Toronto Chef Matt Kantor, (of Bero Restaurant) had this to say:

“Brilynn doesn’t do things solely for money, but just to do them, and do them well. She brings a perspective of someone who would normally have many more years in this business”.

We couldn’t agree more with Chef Kantor and we congratulate Brilynn on this outstanding achievement!

JD ERA at Working Proof Studios

Picture 2Working Proof was happy to host the filming of Toronto rapper JD Era’s new video, The Greatest, featuring Raekwon.

I hate to ruin his reputation, but JD Era is a really nice guy. In fact, his entire crew was amazing, That’s not always the case when filming a music video, especially after a long day of hurry- up-wait, listening to the same track over and over again. The track in question is The Greatest off JD Era’s mixtape, No Holdouts featuring Raekwon.

Check out the video here.

Creative Image Studios say goodbye.

After almost four years, our friends in the photography studio rental business, Creative Image Studios, will be closing their doors. Anthony and Kevin at CIS have done great work in providing Toronto photographers, makeup artists, and models with a place to learn and grow and it will be sad to see them leave. To commemorate their closing, CIS have arranged a final event for Sunday, August 19th. We at Working Proof Studios hope you can join them. Click here for more details.

America’s Next Top Model

When America’s Next Top Model contacted me to use the studio to shoot some visuals for their live event in Toronto, May 4 – May 6, naturally, I hesitated. You see, there’s a studio in town who chose a name eerily similar to the aforementioned ANTM in an attempt to lure unsuspecting teens and their parents into paying for portfolio pictures. “Sure”, I said. “Bring Tyra and we’ll hang out”. Of course, to my pleasant surprise, this was the real ANTM and they were great to work with.

Ross Petty Productions’ Wizard of Oz Shoot

Photographer Bruce Zinger came by the studio recently to shoot promos for Ross Petty’s upcoming production of The Wizard of Oz.  Jessica Holmes of CBC TV’s Royal Canadian Air Farce stars as Good Witch Splenda and Elicia Mackenzie, who recently played Maria in the Toronto production of The Sound of Music, will be Dorthy.  Ross Petty himself will be the Wicked Witch of the West and they were all here at Working Proof Studios having some wicked fun for the camera!  The show runs from November 24~January 6, 2011 at the Elgin Theatre so get your tickets a.s.a.p.

Degrassi’s Cory Lee in Studio

Degrassi Actress and singer Cory Lee was in Working Proof Studios recently modeling some high-fashion looks for photographer Philip Maglieri.  Working together with stylist Shaun Marq, they captured some stunning images.  Plans are in the works for Cory to release a single in the next month and we can’t wait to hear it!

Regina Garcia’s Shoot for Ad Agency Ogilvy + Mather

Regina was recently in the studio shooting an ad campaign for the Heart and Stroke Foundation with Art Director Alexandra Wells.  Regina had this to say about her experience at Working Proof Studios:

“Working Proof provides a very accommodating experience with staff always on hand to help out.   The studio has all the equipment I need for a shoot and Headshots is directly across the street if I need anything extra.  It’s also a great place to bring clients.  I’ll definitely be shooting here as much as possible.”

Shooting natural light Headshots at Working Proof Studios.

One of the reasons I chose this space for Working Proof Studios was that it faces north. I love the natural northern light that streams in all day. Whether it’s sunny or overcast, the light is always beautiful. That’s why I decided to use only natural light for some corporate headshots I shot recently. There’s no additional lighting in these shots, just light from a window and a little bounce. Whether you’re shooting portraits or fashion, it’s sometimes worth simplifying your shoot and going with what nature gives you.
